Donald J. Barycki, Sr. Known to some as D.J. passed away peacefully at home on May 24 after a series of illnesses. Born on July 7. 1949 in the Taylor hospital, Taylor, Pa. A lifelong resident of the Sibley section of Old Forge, & Son of the late Anthony J, & Lorraine VanDeusen Barycki. He had been married to his loving wife, Marita Walsh Barycki for 47 years. A 1967 Graduate of Old Forge High School, Don was a man of many talents. Up until 1988 he owned a floor covering business which kept many area residents feet warm, then., In 1989 decided to turn his hobby & passion into a profession by opening & operating a used car & auto body repair business, which he maintained until his decline in health & unplanned retirement in 2008
Upon retirement he still enjoyed working part time selling parts at Keyser Valley auto wreckers. He was of Roman Catholic faith & a member of St Ann’s Basilica, Scranton, Pa.
Besides his fondness of vehicles of all kinds, he also enjoyed going for Sunday rides with his wife in their Corvette, hunting, doing any kind of outdoor activities with his sons, but especially getting together with family & hanging onto his Polish heritage by making. & smoking kielbasi with the family at the residence before the holidays. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by a son Anthony in 2014. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Donald J Jr, & wife Robin, Kristopher, & wife Jennifer, all of Duryea, Multiple granddaughters which were the twinkle in his eye, a brother David of Baldwinsville, Ny, Nieces & nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Commonwealth Home Health, & their wonderful employees, especially Bob Zilenski, Nicole Margalis, & Cindy Hallok, And All of the employees of Allied hospice for their care & compassion.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday to begin at 9;15 AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Ann Basilica, Saint Ann Street in West Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Richard Burke, C.P., Pastor. Private burial, Holy Rosary Cemetery in Duryea.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Sunday between 5-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
