Roy Williams, age 90, of Taylor, passed away at home Wednesday afternoon under the care of Hospice of the Sacred Heart. He is survived by his loving wife, Lois Rodney Williams. Wed on April 2, 1951, the couple celebrated 66 years of marriage.
Born in Old Forge on September 22, 1927, and son of the late Edward Williams and Rosina Digwood Wray, Roy was educated at Taylor High School. He was a World War II Naval Veteran, Honorably Discharged from service in 1946.
A lifelong and gifted auto mechanic, Roy owned and operated several local garages before building, along with his partner John Santioni, the Taylor Auto Exchange Texaco Gas Station in Taylor. Roy, along with John, ran the business for 60 years before Roy opened Roy Williams in Old Forge, where he still worked until his passing. An antique car enthusiast, Roy was also an avid vintage car collector.
He was a longtime member of the Stewart Memorial Church in Old Forge, and was also a 60 year member of the Acacia Lodge #579, F&AM, in Taylor. A legend in the triborough, Roy was one-of-a-kind who will forever be remembered.
He is survived by his two loving daughters, Patricia Alunni of Eynon and Wendy Salerno and husband Daniel of Old Forge; three grandchildren, Angel Turowski and husband Craig, Ryan Alunni and wife Rebecca and Justin Alunni; five great grandchildren, Kyrian, Dahlia, Paul, Ryan and Elena; a sister, Loretta Burti of Taylor; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Gerald Alunni.
His family wishes to thank Ron Coles, Roy’s longtime co-worker, caretaker and, above all, friend, along with the entire staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart, for collectively making a difficult time a bit more comfortable.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday at 10:00AM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, to be conducted by Rev. Dr. Michael Shambora. Interment with full military rites by the AMVETS Honor Guard will follow at Marcy Cemetery in Duryea.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday between 1-4:00PM at the funeral home, with Masonic funeral services being held at 3:30PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Roy’s name to either the Acasia Lodge F&AM, 617 Union St, Taylor, PA., 18517, or to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive # 7, Wilkes-Barre, PA., 18702.
