Robert Bolock, age 74, of Old Forge, died Sunday morning at home, after a recent illness. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Lucille Mitten Bolock. Wed on July 2, 1966, the couple recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary.
Born on April 1, 1943, in Duryea, Robert was a graduate of the former Hughestown High school, Class of 1961. A proud Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, he served overseas in Italy before attaining an honorable discharge from service in 1966. He first worked at Brooks Manufacturing, before working for Flowserve in Moosic where he’d assume the role as “perpetual rookie”, a title he held onto until his retirement.
He was a pillar of the Langcliffe Presbyterian Church in Avoca, where he also served as church elder. A church assistant youth leadership adviser for many years, the children affectionately referred to him as “Big Bopper.”
From visiting his son in Japan to taking numerous cruises, he and his wife had traveled the world. Also a sports fan, he loved the L.A. Dodgers, Boston Celtics and the New York Giants, and he was also an excellent woodworker. Passing away peacefully with his wife and son by his side, he will forever be missed.
He is survived by his loving son, Rob Bolock of Old Forge and fiance Chisato; sisters, Evelyn Gutowski of Duryea and Charlotte Hughes of Inkerman; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Remick, as well as the entire staffs of both Geisinger Wyoming Valley’s ER and Moses Taylor Hospital.
Sisters, Leola, Betty, Sarah, Marcella, Margaret, Theresa and Dolores, also preceded him in death.
A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday AT 10:00am at Langcliffe Presbyterian Church, 1001 Main Street in Avoca, to be conducted by Rev. Alex Becker, Pastor. Burial, with full military rites by the AMVETS Honor Guard, will follow in the Church’s Cemetery.
