Gerard (Jerry) Toraldo, L.P.N., 63, of Dickson City, died Thursday at Regional Hospital of Scranton after an illness. He is survived by his companion and best friend of 37 years, David Michalski.
Born in Scranton on March 5, 1954, Gerard was the son of the late Dominic and Anne (Gaffney) Toraldo. A graduate of the former Scranton Central High School, he attended Marywood College. After earning his license as a practical nurse, he selflessly cared for the residents of Green Ridge Health Care Center for many years and, more recently, at Linwood Center. He was beloved by all his patients for the compassion he exhibited.
An avid traveler, he also enjoyed crafting. Jerry, a member of the Divine Mercy Roman Catholic Church Parish in Scranton, also belonged to the Knights of Columbus. Taken too soon from his loved ones, he’ll be forever missed.
His family would like to thank the entire staff of Regional Hospital, especially Dr. Linda Barrasse, for their amazing care of Gerard throughout his illness.
Surviving are his siblings, Dominic Toraldo and wife, Judy, of Scranton; Paul Toraldo and wife, Mary, of Hanover, Md.; and Kathryn McKenna and companion, Phil Fuller, of Jefferson Twp.; a sister-in-law, Patricia Toraldo, of Old Forge; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Siblings Gaetano (Guy) Toraldo, Bernard Toraldo, Alice Maguire, Mary Logan and Anne Toraldo also preceded him in death.
A blessing service by the Rev. Joseph Sica is scheduled for Monday at 7 p.m. at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday from 5 until services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gerard’s name to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
