Helen R. Engle, age 93, of Scranton, died Sunday morning at Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit in Dunmore. Her late husband was Peter Engle, Jr., who died on November 27, 1982.
Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Helen Zubanco Balendy.
She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed being with family and friends, playing cards, doing puzzles and her trips to the casinos. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by two daughters, JoAnn Diano and husband Tom Mahoney of Scranton and Shirl (Kat) Engle of Springbrook Twp. (Moscow); three sons, Peter, Richard and Robert Engle and wife Karen, all of Scranton; four grandchildren, Dominick and Peter Diano and Sahara and Saamon Engle; two great grandchildren, Peter and Abbey Diano; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Edward Engle; a grandson, Joseph Diano; a sister, Mary O’Malley and a brother, Michael Balendy.
A Blessing Service by Rev. Joseph Sica is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:00PM in the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 5:00pm until services. Private interment, Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Helen’s name to either the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
