Lorraine R. James, age 83, a lifelong resident of West Scranton, passed away Monday at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit, Dunmore, after an illness. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, William B. James Jr., on Feb. 8, 1992.
Born on Aug. 30, 1932, and daughter of the late Luke and Anna Walsh Scott, Lorraine was a graduate of West Scranton High School, class of 1950. Upon raising her family, she worked as a secretary for Scranton Lithograph, Scranton Lace Co. and before her retirement, Lasalle Oil Co. Inc. of Roman Catholic faith, she was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Church in West Scranton.
An animal lover, she especially adored her Basset Hound, “Daisy.” She will be missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by two sons, William D. James and wife, Catherine of Scranton; and David James and wife, Nancy of Sarasota, Fla.; two siblings, Luke Thomas Scott and wife, Jennie of Dunmore; and Miriam Cavanaugh of Maryland; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Also preceded in death were daughters, Linda Mangan and infant, Sandra James; and siblings, Anna Nigrelli and James, Mildred and Catherine Dorothy Scott.
Her family wishes to thank the staffs of both Hospice of the Sacred Heart and Scranton Health Care Center for the tremendous care given to Lorraine throughout her stay with each.
Funeral services will begin on Friday at 9:45 a.m. from the Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with a 10:30 Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson St., Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Stephen Krawontka, associate pastor. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lorraine’s name to the Mureille’s Place – a Senior Dog Sanctuary, 533 Creek Road, Wapwallopen, PA 18660.
