Catherine (Kay) Conniff, age 93, of Old Forge, passed away Saturday evening at Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was preceded in death on January 27, 1988, by her beloved husband of 45 years, Zigmund Leonard Conniff.
Born in Newton Centre, Mass., on May 23, 1922, daughter of the late James and Mary Burns Rooney, Kay was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Newton Centre, Class of 1940.
Of strong Roman Catholic faith, she was a loyal member of St. Ann’s Basilica Parish, West Scranton. Kind and gentle, Kay was unswerving and loyal to both her duty and friends. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Judith Ann Conniff of Old Forge; Charles Neushall of Moosic, whom Kay considered a son; and many nieces and nephews.
The last surviving of ten siblings, she was preceded in death by her brothers, William, Hugh and Thomas Rooney; sisters, Elizabeth DeAngelis, Mary DeBendictus, Rose Chlebda and Sarah Pontz; and two infants.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Thursday at 10:00AM at St. Ann’s Basilica Church, 1250 St. Ann St., Scranton. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Keeping Kay’s personal wishes, her viewing will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kay’s name to either St. Ann’s Basilica Parish, 1250 St. Ann St., Scranton, Pa., 18504, or to the donor’s favorite charity.
