Robert D. Janesky, 75, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Tuesday evening at Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit, Dunmore.
Born July 5, 1940 in Scranton, he was the son of the late Stanley Janesky and Adele Zimmer Janesky. A 1959 graduate of West Scranton High School, Robert was a proud veteran serving in the Navy. He was employed by Scranton Lace, Bittenbender and finally retiring from Scranton Preparatory School in the maintenance department. He was a former member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, West Scranton, where he served as an altar boy in his youth. Robert was a member of the Hyde Park Lodge 339, Free and Accepted Masons and Lincoln Heights American Legion Post 920, Scranton. He was also a former member of the Lithuanian and Tauras clubs.
A loving nephew and cousin, Robert was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing and spending time at “the farm” in New Milford. Full of laughter and good, clean humor, Robert was quite the joke teller. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving are an aunt, Lillian Zimmer, Clarks Summit; and several cousins.
The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass at 10:30 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 1703 Jackson St., Scranton, with the Rev. Jose Zepeda, FSSP, officiating. Interment with military honors, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church. To leave an online condolence, visit the funeral home website.
