Gladys Jenkins Tyler, age 95, a resident of Old Forge Manor and formerly of Taylor, died Friday under the care of Heartland Hospice and Commonwealth Hospice, Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert J. Tyler, on May 30, 1994.
Born in Dorranceton on March 16, 1919 and daughter of the late Elmer and Etta Mann Jenkins, Gladys was a graduate of the former Clarks Summit High School, Class of 1937. Prior to retirement, she served as a clerk for Davis Variety Store in Clarks Summit. A pillar of the Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church in Old Forge, Gladys served as church Trustee and Treasurer, held a position on the Administrative Council, and was a proud charter member and former president of the United Methodist Women. A frequent reader of the Bible, she had great faith and served God to the fullest. A community volunteer, she was also active with the Meals on Wheels of Old Forge. Touching the lives of everyone she encountered, Gladys will be forever missed by all of those who loved her.
She is survived by her two loving daughters, Sandra Suzanne Tyler of Scranton and Elizabeth Ellen Trolio and husband Jim of Moosic; two grandchildren, Richard Orlowski and wife Angie and Judy Morales and husband Cliff; five great grandchildren, Alysa, Virginia and Brittany Orlowski, Mikayla Skapyak and Haily Morales; and nieces and nephews.
Three siblings, William Jenkins, Nancy Marcy and Betty Lawry, also preceded her in death.
Her family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Kathryn Sallavanti along with the entire staffs of Old Forge Manor; Moses Taylor Hospital’s 2nd Floor; Heartland and Commonwealth Hospices for the amazing care and compassion given to Gladys.
Funeral services, to be co-conducted by Rev. Donald Perry and Rev. James Wert, are scheduled for Thursday at 10:00AM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Dalton.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday between 4-7:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gladys’ name to her church, Stewart Memorial U.M. Church, 174 North Main Street, Old Forge, PA., 18518.
