Evelyn (Clara) Pasternak Flynn, age 83, of Old Forge, died on May 4th at the Celtic Hospice Center in Wilkes Barre. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jonah T. Flynn, on June 21, 1993. Born in Ransom on August 24, 1930, daughter of the late Harry, Sr., and Femia Pregmon Pasternak, Evelyn was a graduate of the former Taylor High School, Class of 1949. She had worked for Brooks Manufacturing and Augustine’s Club 17 Restaurant before owning and operating Flynn’s Inn 2 in Old Forge with her husband. Most recently, she worked at the Taylor Nursing Home. She was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Orthodox Church in Old Forge and was a member of the church’s Lady’s Club. She enjoyed playing bingo and taking trips to the Atlantic City Casinos. A loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and godmother, Evelyn will be forever missed.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Attorney Ruth Ann Raftery and husband Brian of Westfield, New Jersey; her sister, Mary Slenska of Taylor; her three granddaughters, Brigid, Megan and Erin Raftery; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Williams; and her brothers, Leonard, Stephen, George, Michael, Peter, Paul, John and Harry Pasternak, Jr.
Her family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Celtic Hospice as well as all the wonderful caregivers who helped so much throughout her long battle with Parkinson’s disease for their collective care and compassion.
The funeral is scheduled to begin on Friday at 10:00AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 10:30AM funeral service at St. Michael’s Orthodox Church, 512 Summer Street in Old Forge, to be conducted by Rev. Peter E. Henry, Rector. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Parish Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday between 5-8:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Evelyn’s name to either Celtic Hospice, 601 Wyoming Avenue, Kingston, 18704, or to St. Michael’s Church Building Fund, 512 Summer Street, Old Forge, 18518.
