William J. Tobin, Jr., age 68, of West Scranton died Friday evening at the Mercy Hospital in Scranton.He is survived by his wife Rachel Royce Tobin.They celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on June 11th.
Born in Scranton on June 11, 1936 he was the son of the late William and Ann Sheridan Tobin. He was a graduate of the former St. Patrick’s High School, West Scranton and attended the University of Scranton. He Served in the Navy during Korean War. Before his retirement he was employed by Royal Neighbors Life Insurance Company of Rock Island Illinois for 12 years as a regional manager. He also formerly worker for the Bankers Life and Casualty in Scranton for 29 years.He was a member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, West Scranton and a member of the church’s Society Of The Faithful. He was a 4th degree member of the St. Patrick’s Council of the
Knights of Columbus.
He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, brothers, and sister.He enjoyed fishing.
Also surviving are four daughters,
Kathy Smith of Scranton,
Ann Schwartz of Fleetville,
Michelle Beil of Aurora, Ind., and
Colleen Deardorff of California, Ky.One sister, Margaret Reidenbach of Scranton.Two brothers, John Tobin of Dunedin, Fla.and Patrick Tobin of Scranton
Twelve grandchildren and
One great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his step mother Margaret Tobin.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:00 A.M. from the Durkan-Cuff-Kearney Funeral Home, 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton with mass of the christian burial at 9:30 A.M. in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Jackson Street in West Scranton to be celebrated by the Rev. James Dougher. Interment will be at Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 P.M.
