December 31, 1937 - January 24, 2019
Phyllis (Morgan) Ferrel, age 81, of Taylor, passed away Thursday at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, after an illness. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Robert Leland Ferrel, on July 19, 2007.
Born in Pottstown on New Year’s Eve, 1937, and daughter of the late Harold and Doris Powell Morgan, Phyllis was a graduate of Carbondale Area High School. She then studied education at Bloomsburg University and Lackawanna College. She worked for Bank of America and PNC Bank before retiring from the accounting department of the former Crystal Soda Water Company in Scranton. She also worked alongside her husband at the couple’s business, Rockford Enterprises in Old Forge.
A longtime member of Taylor’s United Church of God, she also served as a Cub Scouts Den Mother and enjoyed collecting music boxes. Phyllis was loving, kind and accepting to all. Her greatest joy came while spending time with her grandchildren as they always seemed to brighten her day. Now at peace, she will be dearly missed.
She is also survived by her loving sons, David Ferrel and William Ferrel and wife Brenda, all of Taylor; three grandchildren, Kristine Ferrel of AZ, Douglas Ferrel and wife Nicole of Scranton and Marcia Hotchkiss and husband Matthew of Camp Hill; six great grandchildren, Aubrey, Jordan, Ryan, Colton, Ellianna and Carter; two nieces and a nephew.
Funeral services by Rev. Doug Hoeffner are scheduled for Tuesday at 10:00AM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Burial will follow at the Forty Fort Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday between 4-7:00PM at the funeral home.
