John Matthews

July 5, 1946 - June 25, 2021

John Matthews, age 74, a longtime Taylor resident, passed away Friday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, after an illness. He was preceded in death on June 15, 2008 by his beloved wife of 41 years, Barbara (Dudeck) Matthews.
Born in Scranton on July 5, 1946, and son of the late Kenneth and Mary (Greenfield) Matthews, John served as a foramen for Gress Poultry for 28 years. Possessing an incredible work ethic, perhaps his favorite job was serving as the owner of Matthews Pallets where, with the help of his wife, he built and supplied pallets to numerous area businesses.
John loved hunting and fishing, finding a good bargain at a sales auction and eating, especially his junk food. Above all else came his amazing family. He couldn’t have been any more proud of them and the way that they will now carry on his and Barbara’s legacy. Loved by all who knew him, he’ll never be forgotten.
A man of strong faith, he belonged to the First Congregational United Chrch of Christ in Taylor.
He is survived by his children, Barbara Reviello of Taylor, Helen Moraca and husband Joseph of Scranton, Lora Bauman and David Donati of Dupont, Kelly Tansley of Old Forge and John Matthews and wife Jill of Throop; his grandchildren, Tiffany Reviello and significant other Mark Brennan, Amanda Grasso and husband Dan, twins Angelina and Cassandra Moraca, Briana Moraca, Isabella Bauman, Johnny and Madelyn (Madge) Matthews, Paul, Jordan and Debi Sekol; his siblings, Kenneth Matthews, Jr. of CA, Helen Naughton of Dalton and Debbie Black and husband Randy of Lake Ariel; and many nieces and nephews.
A grandson, John Reviello, III, and a brother, George Greenfield, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 130 Union Street in Taylor, to be celebrated by Rev. Ginger Daubenhauser, Pastor. Burial will follow at Milwaukee Cemetery, Ransom Twp.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday between 4-7:00 PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
