Jack L. Tenelly, age 89, of West Scranton, died Wednesday evening at home. His wife, the former Mary Dunne Tenelly , died March 1995.
Born on August 15, 1915 in Scranton he was the son of the late Luca and Catherine Gerolamo Tenelly. He was educated in Scranton Schools.He Served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He served in the air offensive battles and campaigns of
Europe, Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Distinguished Unit Badge, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 6 bronze stars. Before his retirement he was employed as as a operating engineer by Local Union # 542 of Plains where he was also an apprentice coordinator.He was a member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, West Scranton and a member of the church’s Society of the Faithful.
He is survived by his one son,
Louis Tenelly of Moscow and one daughter, Jacqueline Tenelly with whom he resided. Four granddaughters;Amy Stevens, Kathryn Gilbride, Missy Frye, and Lia Tenelly and a grandson Robert Stevens.Two great granddaughters Delanie Gilbride and Megan Frye and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Joseph, William, and Cosmo Tenelly and three sisters Margaret Piontek, Florence Riviello, and Catherine Krah.
The funeral will be Monday at 8:45 A.M. from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, 517 North Main Street, Old Forge with mass of the christian burial at 9:30 A.M. in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Jackson Street in West Scranton. Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton.Friends may call Sunday from 4-7 P.M.
