Heinz C. Colbert, 82, of Oreland, Pa., formerly of Scranton, died Wednesday January 5th in the Mercy Hospice, Scranton. His wife, the former Lottie Ortmann, died December 23, 1997.
Born in Gelsenkirchen, Germany on February 23, 1922, he was the son of the late Fred and Marie Chilla Colbert. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II and Korea. He served over 23yrs. active service with the U.S. Army. In 1965, he was recognized as an Honorary member of the Manheim German Police Force. In May of 1968, he received the Army Commendation Medal. He retired from the Army with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer W-2.
He was a member of the Military Officers Association of America and the Sandy Run Country Club, Oreland, PA. He was a former member of the Elmhurst Country Club and was a one time Club Champion. Golf was his passion.
He is survived by his son Ronald Colbert and his wife Maryann, Old Forge, a brother Fred Colbert, Scranton, a sister Ilene Beals, Decatur, Illinois.
Grandchildren Jason and Charissa Colbert, both of Swoyersville, and Andrea, Michael, and Louis Scarantino, of Old Forge.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Constance Colbert.
Cremation will take place in the Maple Hill at Salem Crematory, Archbald, Pa. Interment of cremains will be at a later date in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mercy Hospice Inpatient Unit 746 Jefferson Avenue Scranton, Pa 18510.
