Grace Mitten, age 85, a guest of the Mountain View Care Center, South Scranton, formerly of Avoca, died Wednesday morning at the Center. She was the widow of Orville Albert (Al) Mitten who died in 1964.
Born in Moosic on March 10, 1919 she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Margaret Decker VanLuvender, she settled at the nursing home over 2 years ago. She was a graduate of the former Moosic High School. Before her retirement she was employed by Parodi Cigar of Scranton and was also a self employed hairdresser.She was a member of Langcliffe Presbyterian Church, Avoca where she was also Church Elder and ran the
Quilting Club of the church.She was a member of the
Moosic Senior Citizens Club.
She is survived by her one son, Albert Mitten of Avoca and two daughters, Lucille Bolock of Old Forge and Alice Berger of Jenkins Twp. 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a grandson and two daughters Ruth Thompson and Norma Harding and brothers John, Vincent, Robert, Donald, James, William, Sidney, Samuel, and Louis and sisters Nora Capone, Martha Schmidt, Lydia Chelland, Muriel Graham, and Elizabeth Hefty.
Cremation will take place in the Maple Hill at Salem Crematory, Archbald. Services will be conducted at the convenience of the family in the Langcliffe Presbyterian Church in Avoca on Saturday January 15, 2005 by the Rev. Dr. Susan J. Ezell, Pastor of the Langcliffe Prebyterian Church, Avoca.Interment of her cremains will be in the Langcliffe Cemetery in Avoca.
