Dennis Owens, Sr.

October 5, 1949 - March 3, 2021

Dennis J. Owens, Sr., age 71, a longtime Taylor resident, passed away Wednesday morning at home, after a recent illness. Surviving is his high school sweetheart and wife of 50 years, Donna (Kalinich) Owens. The couple was married June 6, 1970.
A Scranton native, Dennis was born on October 5, 1949. Son of the late John and Sophie (Osowski) Owens, Dennis was a graduate of the former St. Patrick’s High School. For over two decades prior to retirement, he worked in the maintenance department of the Riverside School District. Dennis was very active with the Taylor Fire Department, serving as Fire Chief and most recently as a Trustee.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, his family was his first priority, however not far behind was his “fire family.” Dennis was a hard worker who always provided for his family and made sure they were taken care of. A huge car enthusiast, he could tell you all the specifics of a car just by seeing its tail lights. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Of the Roman Catholic faith, Dennis was a member of Divine Mercy Parish.
He is also survived by his loving daughter, Jennifer Gilchrist and husband Nicholas of Old Forge; a daugher-in-law, Kim Owens of Taylor; adored grandchildren, Logan and Skylar Gilchrist and Madyson and Mason Owens; sisters, Kathy Capwell and husband, Eddie of Scranton, and Linda Canavan of Moscow; and nieces and nephews.
A beloved son, Taylor Fire and Rescue Captain, Dennis Owens, Jr., preceded him in death on February 23, 2013, as well as his brother, Ronald Owens.
Blessing services to be celebrated by Rev. Francis L. Pauselli, Divine Mercy Parish Pastor, are scheduled for Saturday at 4:00 PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Relatives and friends may pay thier respects from 2 PM until the time of the service.
