May 6, 1961 - April 25, 2021
Charles (Chuck) Prendergast, age 59, of Old Forge, passed away Sunday afternoon at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. Surviving is his best friend, caregiver and loving companion of 19 years, Thomas Possinger.
Born on May 6, 1961 and raised in Scranton, Chuck was the son of the late Thomas F. and Lillian (Butch) Prendergast. He was a 1979 graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School before working at Specialty Records. He retired due to illness as a supervisor after 27 years with the company.
Chuck possessed “the gift of gab”, able to create a conversation with anyone he encountered. In doing so, he developed lifetime friendships, countless memories, and an extended family with his crew at the Oneida Campground in New Milford.
Alongside his love for camping, Chuck made award winning chili; was the host of legendary weenie roasts; and was an expert beer taster. He loved his pups and of course his Maddi, Nikki and Mindi certainly loved Chuck.
Throughout three decades of grim cancer diagnoses and countless other ailments, Chuck was the epitome of a warrior while battling whatever came his way. His strength will never be forgotten. An amazing companion, brother, uncle, nephew and friend, his memory will long live on through those he loved.
He is also survived by his brothers, Paul Prendergast and wife Joy and Joseph Prendergast and wife Melissa, all of Scranton, and Thomas Prendergast and wife Jean Marie of Taylor; two nieces, a nephew/godson, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
His family wants to acknowledge the exceptional care of the following for having taken great care of both Chuck and his loved ones: W.B. General Hospital’s doctors, nurses, aids and singing housekeepers; Sister Ruth Neely, CRNP, of the Wright Center; and the support of Saint Mary’s Villa Staff.
A Toast to Chuck’s Life is scheduled for Thursday at 7:00 PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, to be celebrated by Addie Rocco, Mission Coordinator at St. Mary’s Villa. Family and friends may pay respects from 4:00 PM until services.
