Flaviano Cristian Torres Gutierrez, known as “Don” to his family and friends, 78, a longtime resident of South Scranton, passed away peacefully at his home on June 2, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on December 22, 1947 in Mexico to the late Matilde Gutierrez Sanchez and Arnulfo Torres Baron.

Flaviano was a hardworking man who began working at a young age in Mexico to help support his family. Later in life, he founded a landscaping company alongside his son, Alberto. He will be remembered for his exceptional craftsmanship, stone masonry work, and landscaping; creating beautiful outdoor spaces for families to enjoy throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania.

In his free time, Flaviano enjoyed being outdoors: tending to his vegetable garden, planting roses around his home, and walking to local businesses in the community that he loved. He also loved and cared for the family dog, Archie. Family was the center of his life. He always prepared  his grandchildren’s favorite meals during their visits and remained closely connected with his family in Mexico, always available to listen or offer advice.

He is survived by his wife, Livia Perea Ayala, son, Alberto Torres, three grandkids in Scranton,  along with two daughters, two sons, and six grandkids and one great-granddaughter who reside in Mexico.

Flaviano will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He will be laid to rest in Jumiltepec, Mexico, his hometown. Arrangements are under the care of the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc.,
