Obituaries

Patrick M. Higgins, 61, of Scranton, passed away Saturday after being stricken ill at home.  HIs wife of 40 years is the former Joyce Hazen.  The couple was married August 24, 1985.

Born October 26, 1963 in Scranton, son of the late John Joseph and Susan Adelle Hutchins Higgins, Patrick was educated in Western Wayne Schools.  A blacktopper most of his life, Patrick was also employed at a hotel, as a cook, and a landscaper.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Patrick treasured family time more than anything else.  Patrick enjoyed fishing, singing, and cooking.  Very talented at drawing, Patrick created a picture book which is featured in the Honesdale Children’s Library.  HIs talent also paved the way for an opportunity to work for Walt Disney, which he declined because no one was going to tell Patrick what he could and could not draw.  Taken too soon, he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter, Marlaina Higgins, and companion, Robert Blanyar, Scranton; grandchildren, George, Autumn, Natalie, Wyatt, William, and Alaina; sisters, Victorine Higgins, Maine, and MaryJo Higgins, Scranton; stepdaughter Heather Desarno and grandson Alex, several nieces and nephews.

 A stepdaughter, Felicia Ware, and siblings, Victor Higgins, John Joseph Higgins, Jr., and Linda Sue Higgins preceded him in death.

A Celebration of Patrick’s Life will be held at a later date.
