Karol (Francis) Wansacz, a lifelong Moosic resident, passed away on Thursday at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton following an illness. She was 70 years old.

On August 7, 1992, she married her beloved husband of 33 years, John Wansacz.

Born on January 23, 1955 and raised in Moosic, Karol was the daughter of the late Joseph and Eleanor (Heckman) Francis. She was a graduate of Riverside High School’s Class of 1974 before attending Moses Taylor Hospital’s School of Medical Technology. A career medical technologist, Karol had worked for Intermountain Medical Group in Kingston among others before illness shortented her career. She possessed an amazing work ethic and truly loved her work, always taking advantage of the opportunity to help others.

To know Karol was to love her. She had an innate ability to make friends anywhere and everywhere. She was genuinely kind, thoughtful and loving, and she always had a way of bringing out laughter in those around her.

She enjoyed cooking, always making sure those around her were fed, and loved her walks. However, above all else Karol was a devoted Christian always studying her Bible. She was an amazing wife, mom and grandmother whose favorite pastime was simply spending time with her loved ones. She will be missed.

Along with John, she is survived by her adoring children, Bradley Zahornacky and wife Winnie of Taylor, Karisa Buck and husband Harry of Clarks Summit and Justin Zahornacky and wife Niki of Taylor; and four grandchildren, Bennett, Alexa, Parker and Kolton. A brother, Joseph Raymond Francis, also preceded her in death.

Her family would like to acknowledge and thank all of the health care professionals who took such amazing care of Karol throughout the years.

Funeral services to be celebrated by Scott McGrady, Pastor of North Valley Baptist Church, are scheduled for Thursday at 10:00 AM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Homes, Inc., 517 N. Main Street, Old Forge. Burial will follow at Spring Brook Cemetery.  Family and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Wednesday between 4 – 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
