David Paul Snyder, of Olyphant and a proud U.S. Navy Veteran, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday morning at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. He was 74 years young. Born in Scranton on May 7, 1951, and son of the late Edward and Gladys May (Coss) Snyder, David enlisted in the U.S. Navy upon high school graduation beginning his proud military career. He would go on to earn the National Defense Service Medal, The Meritorious Unit Commendation, Gold Oak Leaf Award, Navy Pistol Shot Marksman Ribbon and the Navy Good Conduct Award prior to his honorable discharge after serving during the Vietnam War. To be remembered in countless ways, David loved his television (NCIS; John Wayne; Clint Eastwood; and any and all war movies), playing cards and puzzles and relaxing on his recliner with a glass of Southern Comfort in-hand. Also a hunter and shooter in his earlier days, David’s trademark humor was led by his sarcasm. No one was safe from his jokes! A military and family man, above all else came the latter of the two. He absolutely adored his daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren. As much as he loved them, they loved him the same and will certainly miss him forever. He is survived by his daughter, Donna James and husband Michael of Olyphant; six grandchildren, Justin and wife Taleightha (Teki), Anthony, Trista, Tiffany, and Justin Lee; seven great grandchildren, Naryaih, Ella, Carmella, Ellijah, Peyton, Paisley, and Azia; a sister, Gloria Jean Wolfe; and many nieces and nephews. Siblings, Mary Ann, Charles, Albert and Roger Snyder also preceded him in death. David will be laid to rest with full military honors at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown.
