Obituaries

Joan A. (Biedzicki) Cardamone, a longtime Old Forge resident, passed away peacefully on Monday morning at home. She was 99 years old. On January 3, 2014, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Walter Michael Cardamone. Born on May 24, 1926, and daughter of the late Walter and Stella (Kazmerczak) Biedzicki, Joan was a graduate of Scranton High School. After working as a statistician for the U.S. Government in Washington D.C. during WWII, she returned to Old Forge where she would marry Walter and begin raising her two sons. For many years, she worked for several local factories before her well-deserved retirement. A loving mother, she was always helpful to those in need. She never passed up an opportunity to take a trip, and some of her fondest memories came spending time with her social group, the “Blue Willows.” She was also a longtime member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, now Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge.  She will never be forgotten by her loved ones. She is survived by her loving sons, Walter Cardamone of Old Forge and Dennis Cardamone and wife Diana of Taylor; and nieces and nephews, especially Donna Armillay and husband John of Old Forge and Laurie Chesek and husband Michael of Taylor. Her sister, Irene Fruehan, also preceded her in death. Her family would like to acknowledge and thank dear neighbors June and Joseph Scavo and Ellen Latona for their years of kindness and friendship. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Paul McDonnell at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Prince of Peace Parish of Old Forge, with burial on Walter’s birthday at Old Forge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joan’s name to either Boys Town c/o 14100 Crawford St., Boys Town, NE 68010 or to Easterseals of Northeastern Pennsylvania c/o 1501 Lehigh Street Suite 201, Allentown , PA 18103. Private arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
