The second your heart started beating, our world forever changed. The second your heart ceased to beat, our world forever changed.
It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of David Anthony Sohara, II on June 7th, 2025.
David was born on November 14, 1987, son of David and Lisa (Piragas) Sohara of Old Forge, and a graduate of Old Forge High School. He then graduated from Susquehanna University earning a BA in English. Upon graduation he worked at the Lackawanna County Prison, he then spent two years working in Tempe, Arizona, before returning home. A nearly lifelong resident of Old Forge, he was last employed by Script Pro.
David’s passions were running, weight lifting, biking, cooking and hiking with Andrea. He was an avid reader, writer and enjoyed obscure horror films. A die-hard college football fan, David was definitely unreachable during college football Saturdays, especially while rooting on his Nebraska Cornhuskers.
His story may have ended, but the legacy he leaves behind continues to write itself in all of us.
Along with his adoring parents, he is also survived by loving family: his sister, Kendra Parise and husband Anthony of Moosic; his nephew and “mini me”, James Parise; his niece, Lilly Parise; his beloved cat, “Anchovy”; his longtime companion, Andrea Roman; his grandmother, Mary (Zimak) Sohara; his aunt, Karen Kaville; his uncle, Don Piragas; his cousins, Chris Kaville, best friend Jon Kaville, Kim Troiani and husband Randy, Heather Sohara, Joseph Sohara, Roman and Talia Piragas.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Donald and Jean Piragas; his paternal grandfather, Joseph Sohara; his maternal cousin, Artie Lucarelli; and on March 16th, his uncle and godfather, Joseph Sohara, Ph.D.
A celebration of David’s life is scheduled for Saturday with a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Prince of Peace Parish, Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August Ricciardi, Pastor. Family and friends may pay their respects at the church from 9:00 AM until Mass.
Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge.
