Andrew F. Bauer, 86, of Scranton, and formerly of Cobbs Lake Preserve in Lake Ariel, died Tuesday morning at Green Ridge Care Center.  He was predeceased by his wife, Edith Bauer (née Vaughn) who died in 2017.

He was born August 12, 1938 in Hershey, PA. His parents were Robert E. Bauer and Helen Gerth Bauer. Andrew was a graduate of Germantown Academy, Philadelphia, and attended Haverford College.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-60. While enlisted he was stationed in Germany. He worked briefly in banking and then had a long career at Penn Photomounts where he worked until his retirement.

Andy is survived by his brother Robert Bauer; and stepchildren, Benjamin and Susan Vaughn Grooters.

Andy was always engaged in his community, be it as an Elder at Middletown Presbyterian Church in Media, PA, or as the President of the Cobbs Lake Preserve’s community association, in Lake Ariel, PA, where he and his late wife enjoyed their retirements. At his last residence, The Gardens of Green Ridge, he was known for being the mayor of the puzzle room by other residents and staff.

He was a family man, known as “Uncle A” to nieces Gretchen Bauer, Kelley Ramer-Cavicchioni, and nephew Rob Bauer and his children Max and Charlie Bauer. He was a loving “Poppy” to Ben’s children Charles and Amelia Grooters, and Susan’s stepsons Harrison and Chance LeJeune. He was a beloved father-in-law to Susan’s husband Jeff and Ben’s wife Linda and brother-in-law to Robert’s wife Priscilla. He was even a beloved “outlaw” (his own playful term) to his stepchildren’s paternal family.

He had an active life in his many hobbies. He built spin-art machines for local fairs and was a model train hobbyist for many years. He built a room-filling layout of American Flyers in his Media, PA home and a smaller Christmas layout in HO scale at his home in Lake Ariel, PA. He loved fishing, especially from the bulkhead at 110th St. in Stone Harbor, NJ or from the shore at Cobbs Lake. He enjoyed golf and played an annual memorial tournament with Bob in honor of their father. He taught both of his stepchildren the game, even building a practice course in their yard in Media. He was gifted at wordplay and cards, loving scrabble and gin rummy especially. He was quick witted and charming, and inspired those around him to love life. His presence is missed by all those who loved and knew him.

A Memorial service will be held by his family at a later date.

Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge.
