Eugene Francis Wnorowski, a longtime Old Forge resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 5th, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore following illness. He was 85 years old.
On September 17, 2022, Eugene was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Gaetana (Tina) “Nonni” (Rizzo) Wnorowski.
Born on August 6, 1939 and son of the late John and Jeanette (Korzenski) Wnorowski, Eugene was a 1957 graduate of the former Wilkes Barre Meyers High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard for 21 years, traveling abroad and several states alongside Tina while starting their family. A skilled and talented mechanic, he worked for DeFazio and Northeast Trucking Companies before Tobyhanna Army Depot. A respected leader in his profession, he served as an inspector for nearly two decades prior to his well-deserved retirement.
An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing and hunting, while also being a skilled woodworker. A collector of many things, his favorite was antique bottles.
Gene and Tina were members of the Moosic Assembly of God Church in Moosic until they could no longer attend. A strong faith in Jesus allowed his passing to be peaceful, knowing Tina was awaiting him in heaven.
Surviving are his children, his primary caregiver and daughter, Paula J. Welsh of Old Forge, and a son, David J. Wnorowski and wife Anne of New York, N.Y.; his three grandchildren who adored and cared for “Pop,” for many years – Warren, Kevin and Lindsey Welsh; siblings, Joseph Wnorowski (Jule) of Hanover Twp., and Eleanor Adamchak of Wayne, N.J.; cousins and many nieces and nephews who always appreciated his wit and jokes. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanette and his brother, Jack.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ken Sebastianelli, Sonya Sandhaus, CRNP, Comprehensive Home Health nurses and therapists, both staffs, and the HOSH professionals who ensured he and the family were comfortable in his final days. A very special “Thank You” to Sheila Duggan (CMHC), and caregivers Patty and Tyler Mulrooney, Donna Gaul, and Tina Williams.
A celebration of Eugene’s life will be held on Sunday, March 16th, between 1-4:00 PM at Amadeo’s Restaurant, 4001 Birney Avenue in Moosic, with arrangements under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Eugene’s name to the donor’s favorite charity.
