Barbara Helring-Glindmeyer, of Taylor and Miami Beach, Fl., passed away peacefully January 23rd in Miami Beach. She was 81 years young.
On October 6, 2009, Barbara was preceded in death by the love of her life, Gunter Glindmeyer.
Born in Scranton on April 2, 1943, Barbara was the daughter of the late John J. and Marcella (Flynn) Helring. A graduate of the former St. Patrick’s High School in West Scranton, she retired as an administrative director from Bell Telephone Co. On Nov. 20, 1998, she married the love of his life, Gunter. Together, they traveled the world and enjoyed all the good things both Miami Beach and Pennsylvania had to offer.
Barbara had a big heart, was generous to a fault and had was a selfless contributor to charities, including St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen where she was an annual sponsor in memory of her loved ones. A faithful Roman Catholic, she was a loyal attendee of Saint Ann’s Solemn Novena and a longtime member and familiar face at St. Patrick’s Church.
Barbara was a loving cousin and dear friend to those who were considered extended family. She never passed up a good dinner nor a good slot machine. Her memory will long life on.
She is survived by her dear cousins, included beloved Erin Flynn of Scranton; along with her Flynn and Helring families.
The last of the three Helring siblings, she was preceded in death by a sister and brother, Joan “Bev” Helring and Carl J. Helring, who was a victim of the Vietnam War in 1970.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Wednesday at 11:00 AM in St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson St., Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Richrd Fox, Pastor. Entombment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may pay their respects at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until Mass. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s name to St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen c/o 500 Penn Ave, Scranton, PA 18503. Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P.
