Edward Eugene Blasko, of Moosic and a longtime resident of Old Forge, passed away on Sunday morning at the home of his daughter Janice, where he resided, surrounded by his family. He was 95 years old.

On May 18, 2007, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, wife of 57 years, Nora M. (Holland) Blasko.

Born on September 18, 1929, and son of the late George and Helen (Jagodinski) Blasko, Edward was raised in the Bellevue section of Scranton. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps for 26 years, while earning the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant prior to his honorable discharge and retirement. He would go on to work for Techniglass Corporation as a forklift operator before retirement after 26 years with the company.

Edward’s life and values were based around family, faith and service to his country. Above all else, Edward’s main purpose in life was to take care of his family. He loved trains, fishing, golf, big band music, the Boston Red Sox, was a longtime season ticket holder of the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Red Barons and a good Manhattan. Of Roman Catholic faith, Edward was a longtime member of Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge. He was also a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and the Marine Fighter Squadron 214 Association (“Black Sheep Squadron”). He will never be forgotten.

He adored his family, proudly leaving behind five generations. He is survived by his loving family, including his daughters, Janice Barrett with whom he resided, and Nancy Bartnikiewicz and husband Paul of Old Forge; two grandchildren, Joseph Barrett, Sr. of Moosic and Jaynce Barrett of Duryea and companion Jake Hammer; two great grandchildren, Joseph Barrett, Jr. of Moosic and companion Annalea Klaiss and Dylan Barrett of Moosic and his mother Serena Dennis; a great-great granddaughter, Everleigh Nora Barrett; and his well loved nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by brothers, Arthur, Sr. and Joseph Blasko and sister Eleanor Petroziello.

Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Friday at 11:15 AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, with a noon Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Prince of Peace Parish, in Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, Pastor.
