Paulette (Marhelski) Panek, age 75, of Lancaster, South Carolina, and formerly of Old Forge, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, after an illness. She was preceded in death on March 4, 1994, by her husband, Robert “Porky” Panek.
Raised in the “Austin Heights” section of Old Forge, Paulette was the daughter of the late Charles, Sr. and Regina (Fret) Marhelski and a graduate of Old Forge High School’s Class of 1967. Along with raising her children, she worked for many years in the local garment industry before retiring from Sam’s Club in Dickson City. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a longtime member of the former St. Stanislaus Church in Old Forge, prior to its closure.
She is survived by her children, Stephen Kaneski and wife Michelle of Winter Haven, FL., David Kaneski and partner Sandie of Browndale, Jeffrey Kaneski and partner Michelle of Blakely, and Rebecca Peechatka and husband Daniel of Lancaster, SC., with whom she resided and cared for during her illness; five grandchildren, Matthew Kaneski and wife Ashley of Sanford, NC., Sarah Kaneski of Arlington, VA., Jessica Kaneski of Bloomsburg, Caillou Kaneski and Joseph Kaneski, both of Tunkhannock; a great grandson, Carson Kaneski; her brothers, Charles Marhelski and wife Violet of Fairborn, OH., and David Marhelski and wife Renee of Old Forge; and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, January 25th, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Prince of Peace Parish, Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, Pastor. Family and friends may pay their respects at the church from 9:00 AM until Mass.
