Lt. Anthony J. Patte, Jr., a longtime West Scranton resident and former Lieutenant of the Scranton City Fire Department, passed away at home on Friday afternoon surrounded by his loving family, following illness. He was 82 years old.

On February 27, 1965, Anthony married the love of his life and beloved wife, Susan (Melesky) Patte. The couple were soon to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.

Born on October 9, 1942 and raised in Dupont, Anthony was the son of the late Anthony, Sr. and Regina (Potorski) Patte and was educated at the former Dupont High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army prior to his honorable discharge from active duty. He would go on to serve as a Scranton City Firefighter for twenty five years prior to his retirement as lieutenant.

Perhaps his favorite job came while working alongside his brother, David, in the duo’s home painting business. Even upon retirement, he continued to work as a courier for ADI Distributors.

He was a member of Saint Ann’s Basilica Parish in West Scranton as well as a member of the V.F.W. Post 25.

Anthony was a great cook, prideful gardener and fisherman who made countless memories at Lake Ontario. Above anything else it was his family who brought him most joy. His legacy couldn’t be in any better hands with the loved ones he leaves behind. He will forever be loved by his family and friends.

Along with Susan, he is survived by his adored family including his children, Deborah Ann Riccardo of Scranton, Susan Kahlau of Mt. Top, Lisa Tulaney of Scranton and Tony Patte of Scranton; his grandchildren who loved their “pop”, Michael Riccardo, Alexandra and Jack Tulaney; and Anna Kahlau; his sister, Mercita Pasquariello and husband Louis of Old Forge; his sister-in-law, Sandi Patte of Henderson, NV.; his brothers-in-law, Bruce Melesky and wife Shirley of Moosic and Thomas Merlie of Wilkes Barre; nieces and nephews; and a dear friend whom he considered an adopted son, Michael Stine of Scranton.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Tanner Kahlau; and siblings, David Patte, Ann Marie Merlie and Antoinette Patte.

His family would like to acknowledge and thank the entire staff of Visiting Angels for their tremendous care, along with Dr. Scott Hubosky of Thomas Jefferson Hospital who Anthony credited for prolonging his life.

Funeral services with honors by both the Scranton City Fire Department and the AMVETS Honor Guard are scheduled to begin on Friday at 9:00 AM from the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Ann’s Basilica, St Ann St. in West Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. James Paisley, Pastor. Burial will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday between 4-7:00 PM at the funeral home.

To honor his grandson, memorial contributions may be made in Anthony’s name to the Tanner Kahlau Memorial Fund c/o 543 Stone Hedge Place, Mt. Top, Pa. 18707, or to the donor’s favorite charity.
