Joseph (Joe) McConnon, a lifelong resident of Scranton, passed away on Tuesday morning at Allied Services after an illness. He was 72 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Michelene “Mickey” (Garwood) McConnon. The couple were married 35 years on October 21st.
Born in Scranton on May 21, 1952, Joe was the son of the late Joseph F. and Harriett (Lloyd) McConnon. A graduate of the former Scranton Central High School, he earned his Bachelors Degree from Mansfield College where he had also forged several lifelong friendships. He led a successful career in sales, specializing in advertising, before retirement.
A longtime sports fan, Joe loved his New York Giants, New York Yankees and Duke University Blue Devils. A history enthusiast and Civil War buff, he had traveled the world while always making it a point of visiting historical sites along the way.
Joe was an avid walker, loved his animals and adored his family. After a courageous battle with Cancer, Joe’s now at peace.
Along with Mickey, he is suvived by his sons, Paul Masterson with Lauren Foley of S. Abington Twp., and Steven Masterson with Caity Vinciquerra of Scranton; a granddaughter, Delaney Masterson; a sister, Judy McNeill and husband Jim of Rochester, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joanne Gefford.
A celebration of Joe’s life is scheduled for Saturday, November 23rd, at 1:00 PM at the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton. Family and friends may pay their respects from 11:00 AM until services.
