Helen Ann (Orlowski) O’Donnell, age 91, a lifelong resident of the Lincoln Heights section of Taylor, passed away Thursday evening at Allied Skilled Nursing Center in Scranton. On Nov. 20, 1993, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 34 years, John J. O’Donnell.
Born in Taylor on Jan. 25, 1933 and daughter of the late Joseph and Lydia (Orzel) Orlowski, Helen was educated at the former Taylor High School. For over two decades prior to her retirement, she worked for The Jewish Home in Scranton.
Helen was an active member of the Taylor Senior Citizens, where she always loved bus trips with her fellow seniors. She was a pillar of the Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church in Old Forge, where she was also a member of the church’s Womans Society. Above all else, including reading her daily obituary notices and completing crossword puzzles, came spending time with her family, whom she absolutely adored. She will forever be missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving family including her five children, Louis O’Donnell and wife Mary Jo Davis, of Moosic; Joan Peters and husband, Keith, of Scranton; Donna Yatsko and husband, Bryan, of Taylor; Elaine Custard and husband, Gary, of Scranton; and Dorothy Jezorwski and husband, Stanley, of Scranton; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; her sister, Alice Heaver, of Sebring, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Lydia Kokosinski, Anna Lago and infants, Mary and Stella Orlowski; brothers, Stanley, Joseph, John, Edward, Anthony and Frank Orlowski; and two great-grandchildren, Angelina Jezorwski and Colin Beam.
Her family would like to acknowledge and thank the entire staff of Allied Skilled Nursing’s 3-north.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church, 174 N. Main St. in Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. Dr. Michael Shambora, pastor. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Twp. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to church.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Monday between 4 and 7 p.m. at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge.
