James Zellers, age 83, of Dunmore, passed away peacefully on Monday morning at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Charlotte (Santarsiero) Zellers.
Born in Scranton, son of the late David and Catherine Kelly Zellers, Jim worked hard his entire life, mostly as a cook, to support his cherished family. He taught them by exhibiting kindness, respect, gratitude and a solid work ethic. Jimmy had fond memories of being in the Boy Scouts of America, both as a youth and as a Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 27 in Scranton. He was immensely proud of his family’s three Eagle Scouts, Douglas, Jeffrey, and grandson, Joshua.
James loved the outdoors, hiking, fishing and camping with his family and friends. He could always be found watching his beloved New York Yankees, which he was fortunate enough to see, in person, win both the 1996, and 1999 World Series.
The family extends its sincerest gratitude to the staff at Sacred Heart and Traditional Hospice for exemplary care and compassion, and to the staff, that were friends, at the Gardens of Green Ridge Assisted Living.
Jim is survived by his three children, Kimberly Mack, and husband Jeffrey, of North East, MD, Douglas, and wife Marney, of Seattle WA, and Jeffrey, and wife Wendy, of Olyphant; three grandchildren, Joshua and Savannah Zellers, and Peyton Haft; his brother, Joseph (Gary) Zellers, and wife Eileen, of Scranton, and his nieces, Jamie (Zellers) Manning, Katie Zellers, and Cathy Seamans, his nephew Christopher, and grand-nephew, Hunter Manning.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Diane Cronkite, and a nephew, Scott Cronkite.
Private blessing services by Rev. Richard Fox will be Friday from the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, 125 N. Main Avenue, Scranton, with burial to follow at Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst Twp.
Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects at the funeral home on Thursday between 4-6:00 PM.
Arrangements are under the care of dear family friend, Frank Regan of the Frank M. Regan Funeral Home, 323 William St., Scranton.
