Horst Wilhelm Momberg, 83, of Covington Twp., and formerly of Germany, died Sunday afternoon surrounded by his primary caregiver, Tina Dolgash, and his extended USA family.

Born September 11, 1940 in Grunenplan, Germany, son of the late Wilhelm Karl and Martha Grotjahn Momberg, Horst was educated in German schools. He began his lengthy career at Schott Desag in 1957 at the age of 17. In 1971, he transferred to Schott North America, in Duryea as an electrician for 6 months . Asked to stay for 6 more months, Horst decided to move here for good. He enjoyed time with his German Colleagues and American friends at Litzy’s Lounge. in 2005, Horst retired as an Electrical Supervisor. Horst was Senior President of the Wanderlust Club traveling all over the east coast and Canada. Horst was also a member of the Avoca West Side Club, Waldorf German American Club, and the Dupont Polish Club.

Horst traveled alot with his friend, the late Horst Rickman, to Africa with the Ugly Duck Citron French car, road bikes to Paris, France and Lisbon, Portugal, and also visited Norway. Horst was proud of the fact that he visited all 48 lower United States in his life. With so many memories and stories that Horst made with those he came to call friends, his memory will live on for years to come.

Surviving are: nieces and nephews, including Olaf Momberg, and wife, Katrin, Grunenplan, Germany, Silka Momberg and husband Dr. Martin Opitz, Grunenplan, Germany, Matthias Momberg, and wife, Renate, Germany, and Katja Kretschmar, and husband, Joachim, Germany; his German friends, Karl Heinz and Isa Daseke, Grunenplan, Germany, Karl and Petra Buchner, Grunenplan, Germany, and Jurgen Fricke, Germany; his USA friends and extended family, Tina Dolgash, Mark Belotti, Stanley and Deborah Budzilek, Joe and Norine Szydlowski, and Lenny and Mary Metzger

His brothers and sisters-in-law, Hans and Barbara Momberg, Carl and Rosa Momberg, and Deiter and Lisa Momberg; German friend, Horst Rickman; and his USA friends, Don Nealon, and wife, Laurie, Teddy Kerchuck, Joel Swingle, and his partner Carol Hadley preceded him in death.

A Celebration of Horst’s Life will be held on Friday at 7 PM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main Street, Old Forge, with Rev. Dennis Gray, Compassionate Care Hospice Chaplain, officiating.
