Karen E. Pecuch, of Pittston Twp. and formerly a 47 year resident of Old Forge, passed away peacefully on Friday at home following an illness. She was 78 years old. She is survived by her beloved husband and best friend, Dr. Nicholas E. Pecuch. The couple, who celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on March 4, were high school sweethearts and together for 63 loving years.

Born in Taylor on Sept. 19, 1945, Karen was the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Zahorsky) Rosser. A graduate of Old Forge High School’s class of 1963, she was also a graduate from Lackawanna College in 1965. She had worked at GMAC of Camden, N.J. while Nicholas was in dental school before returning home to Old Forge to begin a family.

Karen was a passionate animal lover, a huge fan of the New York Yankees, and she was never one to pass up an opportunity to shop. Her grandchildren meant the world to her and spending time with them was her greatest pleasure, especially while being their babysitter in their preschool years and taking them out to dinner to their favorite restaurants.

Kind, selfless and loving, she was an active member of the Welcome Wagon of Scranton and bowled in South Side Bowl’s Sunday night mixed league. She also served as past president of the Old Forge Missy League.

A loving wife, mother, sister and grandma, she will certainly be missed.

Along with her husband, Karen is survived by her children, her daughter, Nicole Felinski and husband, Al, of Pittston Twp.; and William (Bill) Pecuch and wife, Lisa, of Hanover Twp.; three grandchildren, Alexis and Adam Felinski, and Zoe Pecuch; and nieces and nephews. Her sister, June Paroby, also preceded her in death.

Her family would like to acknowledge and thank both Drs. Kenneth Sebastianelli and James Noto for all they’ve done for Karen throughout the years.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis St., Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Paul McDonnell, pastor. Burial with committal by Rev. Eduard Shestak will follow at St. Nicholas of Myra Cemetery in Old Forge. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church. Family and friends may pay their respects at the church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Karen’s name to either of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Pa./Hershey, c/o 745 W. Governor Road, Hershey, Pa. 17033 or to the SPCA of Luzerne County, c/o 524 E. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, Pa. 18702.

Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge.
