Robert (Bob) F. Genovese, age 88 and a Dunmore native, passed away Friday at Dunmore Health Care Center following an illness. On May 9, 2023, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Anna Jean (Klein) Genovese.
Born in Dunmore on May 29, 1936 and son of the late Anthony and Jennie (Mazzola) Genovese, Bob attended Dunmore High School before serving in the U.S. Army National Guard. He briefly worked for the local family barber shop before beginning a career in transportation. For years he had worked for Dupont Motor Lines before retiring as a driver for J&J Pallet, Inc. of Throop.
A Pike County hunter for many years, Bob attended the Dunmore United Methodist Church. Beyond all else, it was Bob’s beagle “Beau” who undoubtedly made him happiest (and before Beau, it was a long lineage of dogs all named “Snoopy”).
He is also survived by his children, Cynthia (Cindy) Destafano and partner Lisa Mahoski of Carbondale and Chad Genovese and fiancé Rachel Skoranski; a granddaughter, Jackie Debeaubien and husband Chris; two great grandchildren, Emma and Max; two sisters, Angela Genovese of Clarks Summit and Louise Severini of Scranton; and many nieces and nephews.
Siblings, Ann, Joseph and Victor Genovese, also preceded him in death.
His family would like to thank and acknowledge the entire staff of Dunmore Health Care Center and also dear friends, Mark Summa and Marge Davies, for the tremendous care, kindness and love shown to both Bob and his family.
Services to be conducted by Rev. Richard Bradshaw are scheduled for Friday at 3:00 PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Private burial, Dunmore Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 PM until services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter c/o 967 Griffin Pond Rd, South Abington Township, PA 18411. Please visit the funeral home’s website for directions or to leave a condolence.
