Louis Weltz, age 77, a lifelong resident of Taylor, passed away peacefully at hokearneyfh@aol.comkearneyfh@aol.comkearneyfh@aol.comme on Tuesday. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan (Sokolowsky) Weltz, on January 13, 1988.
Born on October 13, 1946, to the late Louis W. Weltz, Sr. and Myrtle (Kwak) Weltz, Louis was a proud graduate of the former Taylor High School. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, receiving his discharge in 1967. Louis retired as a skilled sheet metal worker from Tobyhanna Army Depot.
Louis found joy in his garage, his happy place, where he spent countless hours restoring antiques and rebuilding cars. A self-taught master mechanic, he took great pride in his work.
He is survived by his three loving daughters: Michelle Leeson and her husband Andrew of Maryland; Geraldine Weltz of Phoenixville; and Janette Gallagher of Taylor; along with five cherished grandchildren. Louis was also preceded in death by his infant brother, Michael.
A blessing service, officiated by Rev. Paul McDonnell, is scheduled for Saturday, September 7th, at 11:00 AM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge. Following the service, burial with military honors provided by the AMVETS Honor Guard will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Old Forge.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
