Vincent (Vince) Botticelli, 86, an Old Forge native, died Wednesday morning at home in York, where he had resided with his daughter. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 38 years, Gilda A. Richards Botticelli, on Dec. 20, 1997.
Born in Old Forge on Aug. 9, 1938, son of the late Vincenzo and Philomena (Fiori) Botticelli, Vince was a graduate of Old Forge High School. He was the owner and operator of Gilotti Paint and Decorating Store in Old Forge, a staple in the borough community for decades. More than just a business, the store was a meeting place for bringing people together.
He was a longtime golfer and local league bowler, and upon his move to York his favorite pastime became enjoying daily breakfast with his buds. He was also a lifelong member of Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge.
His easy-going personality was certainly magnetic and Vince had an innate ability to make friends wherever he went. He will long be missed by a loving family and countless friends.
He is survived by his children, Gilda Shearer, VMD, and husband, Michael, of York; and Vincent Botticelli and wife, Carrie, of Spring Brook Twp.; six grandchildren, David, Michelle, Patricia, Miranda, A.J. and Tori; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Vince was also preceded in death by his daughter, Joyce Rogers; and two sisters, Pierina Totaro and Frances Smith.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Prince of Peace Parish, in Old Forge, to be celebrated by the Rev. August Ricciardi, pastor. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church.
Family and friends may pay their respects Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Vince’s name to the Animal Rescue Inc. c/o Main Rescue, P.O. Box 35, Maryland Line, MD 21105. Please visit the funeral home’s website for directions or to leave a condolence.
