Anna M. (Siwek) Connolly, age 90, a longtime resident of the Minooka section of Scranton, passed away Sunday morning at Allied Skilled Nursing Center in Scranton, after an illness. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Bernard J. Connolly, on January 17, 2014.
Born in Scranton on January 21, 1934, Anna was the daughter of the late Frank J. and Edna (Jankowski) Connolly. A graduate of the former st. Mary Assumption High School in South Scranton, she also earned class valedictorian distinction. She would go on to raise her adored family of four children.
Anna will forever be remembered in countless ways. She never missed her nightly episodes of Wheel and Fortune and Jeopardy and never missed a morning banana sandwich. She was an amazing cook, huge animal lover (especially of kitties, once raising 13 of her own) and would never forget her loved ones’ birthdays. She loved the outdoors while some of her fondest memories were spent in Gouldsboro.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, relative and friend who will never be forgotten.
A faithful Roman Catholic, she was a longtime member of St. Mary of Assumption Parish prior to its closure and now of Divine Mercy Parish.
She is survived by her loving family, including four children, David Connolly and wife Carline of Scranton, Mary Ann Siock of Moosic, Catherine Webb and husband David of Madison Twp., and Lorraine Karwaski and husband Steven of Montana; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two siblings, Joseph Siwek and wife Toni of N.J. and Michael Siwek and wife Jana of Delaware; and many nieces and nephews.
A son-in-law, James Siock; and a sister, Mary Regan, also preceded her in death.
Her family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff of both Allied Services Skilled Nursing and Hospice Unit for the tremendous care taken of Anna.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Friday at Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis Street in Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Paul McDonnell, Pastor. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday at the church between 9 – 10:00 AM. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Anna’s name to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter c/o 967 Griffin Pond Rd., South Abington Township, PA 18411.
Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
