Born July 2, 1944 in Scranton, son of the late Louis and Catherine Chernesky Festa, Louis was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. Louis honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War Era. For 38 years, Louis was employed by the U.S. Postal Service and served in the Postal Union overseeing grievances. He served as Vice President of the First Credit Union of Scranton and was a member of the South Side Bachelors Club. A member of the former St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Louis was a member of Prince of Peace Parish.
A man of simple pleasures, his family was his life. Louis enjoyed spending quality time with his sons and grandchildren. An avid baseball fan, his team was the Atlanta Braves. Louis also cheered on the Washington Red Skins and Penn State. His memory will live on in the hearts of all whose lives he touched.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the nurses and staff of Geisinger CMC and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the care and compassion shown to Louis. You are “angels” in human form and your kindness will never be forgotten.
Surviving in addition to his wife are: his loving sons, Joseph Festa, Sr., and wife, Karen, Thornhurst, and Louis Festa, Jr., Old Forge; his beloved grandchildren, Joseph, Jr., Lia, and Giada Festa. brothers-in-law, Louis Mancuso, and companion, Stephanie, and Paul Mancuso, and wife, Linda; several nieces and nephews.
Brothers Walter and Kenneth Lewis preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday at 10 AM in Prince of Peace Parish, St. Mary’s Church, Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August Ricciardi, pastor. Interment, Old Forge Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday from 9 AM until the time of the service in the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, #7, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702. Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., Old Forge.
