Paul “Digga” Horvath, 54, of Throop, died Monday at Geisinger Community Medical Center after an illness. His wife is the former Diana Yovish. The couple was married August 23, 2008.

Born August 18, 1969 in Scranton, son of Donald Vaskie, Cape Coral, FL, and the late Patricia Horvath Corcoran. A 1987 graduate of Scranton Central High School, Paul honorably served in the United States Army during Desert Storm and was employed by the Department of Corrections for 28 years, retiring as a Captain from SCI Waymart.

Affectionately known as “Digga” to all who loved him, Paul treasured his time with his family and friends and was very close to his niece, Mia and his nephew, Brady. An avid golfer, Paul played in the Wednesday and Friday night golf leagues at Pine Hills Golf Course. An avid Chicago Bears fan, Paul enjoyed laughing and was the life of the party. Taken too soon, his memory will live on in the hearts of those he loved.

Surviving are: sisters, Jennifer Horvath Mangiamelle, Pittsburgh and Lori Craven; brothers, Donald Vaskie, and William Vaskie. Brother-in-law, Bob Yovish and sister in law, Maria Yovish; a goddaughter, Jessica Bullick; several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins.

A brother-in-law, Dwayne Mangiamelle, preceded him in death.

A Celebration of Paul’s Life will be held on Friday at 1 PM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N.Main Street, Old Forge. Inurnment with Honors by the AM Vets Honor Guard and the PA State Department of Corrections in Sacred Heart Cemetery, West Scranton will follow.

Relatives and friends may pay thier respects on Friday from 11 am until 1 PM in the funeral home.
