Paul F. McNamara, Jr., 76, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Sunday evening at Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre, surrounded by his loving family.

Born January 24, 1948 in Scranton, son of the late Paul F., Sr., and Theresa McDonnell McNamara, Paul was a 1966 graduate of West Scranton High School. Paul served Honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and retired from the City of Scranton.

Known for his kind heart and loving spirit, Paul loved his family immensely. He enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with his grandchildren. Paul’s desire to help others led him to become a counselor at Marworth Treatment Center and to be very active in the recovery community, saving countless lives. He loved cars and motorcycles, but his passion was flying. He earned both his airplane and helicopter Pilots’ license. Taken too soon, Paul will be fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.

Paul’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff of Allied Services Hospice for the care and compassion shown to them during Paul’s stay. You are “angels” in human form and your kindness will never be forgotten.

Surviving are: children, Ryan McNamara, New Hope, Mary McNamara, West Pittston, Carrie McNamara, and fiance, Kevin Watts, Dallas, TX; siblings, Timothy McNamara, and wife, Ann Marie, Scranton, Mari Carr, Scranton, Brian McNamara, and wife, Holly, Lake Winola, and Carol Fahey, and husband, Michael, Scranton; Grandchildren, Kieran and Kaden; Many nieces and nephews.

A brother, Daniel McNamara, preceded Paul in death.

A Celebration of Paul’s life will be held on Friday with a Mass at 10 AM in St. Ignatius Loyola Parish, 337 N. Maple Avenue, Kingston to be celebrate by Msgr. David Tressler, pastor. Military Honors will follow the mass. Private inurnment will be held at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 9 AM until the time of the service in the church.
