Chester Duszak, age 83, a Duryea native and recently of Pittston, passed away Friday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center after an illness.
Born on September 2, 1940, and son of the late Joseph and Antoline (Davitt) Duszak, Chester was a graduate of the former Duryea High School.
Upon graduation, Chester was called to The Brothers of St. Joseph, a brotherhood based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where Chester’s calling enabled him to flourish in his life dedicated to servicing others. After establishing an orphanage and a cemetery on the monastery grounds, he returned home to take care of his ill father while working throughout the region in local factories.
A pillar of the Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Duryea, he was a devoted Roman Catholic who perpetually volunteered in the church. Called to The Lord on Friday, he will forever be missed.
He is survived by his brother, Frank Duszak of Old Forge; and many beloved nieces and nephew, especially Robin Barycki, whom Chester helped raise like a daughter, and husband Donald of Duryea.
Chester was also preceded in death by six siblings.
A memorial Mass is scheduled for Saturday, June 15th, at 10:00 AM at Holy Rosary Church, Nativity of Our Lord Parish, in Duryea, to be celebrated by Rev. Michael Bryant, Pastor. Family and friends may pay their respects from 9:00 AM until Mass. Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
