Olivia (Marchese) Smith, R.N., 81, of the Glenmaura section of Moosic, passed away Tuesday, May 7th, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore after an illness. On Nov. 9, 1969, she married the love of her life, best friend and husband of 54 years, Donald Smith.

Born in Taylor on Oct. 10, 1942, Olivia was the daughter of the late Anthony and Edna (Clause) Marchese. A graduate of Old Forge High School, class of 1960, she studied nursing at Nesbitt Memorial Hospital where she earned her registered nurse’s license. She began her nursing career at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital before working at Roosevelt Hospital, both in New York City, N.Y. In 1971, she returned home, eventually earning her Bachelor of Science degree with magna cum laude distinction in communications from East Stroudsburg University. After a pivot in her career, she would go on to work nearly two decades at WNEP-TV as a commercial coordinator before her well-deserved 2006 retirement.

Along with Donald, she is also survived by relatives and dear friends who will forever miss her.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Wednesday, June 5th at 10:00 AM at Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis Street in Scranton, with entombment to follow at the Cathedral Cemetery Mausoleum.
