Ruth Evans, 90, of West Scranton sadly left us on April 28, 2024, at Allied Hospice of Scranton, surrounded by her loving family following a brief battle with cancer. She is survived by her beloved husband of 72 years, Thomas Evans Sr.

Born in West Scranton on May 7, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Hilda and Charles Lowe. A 1951 graduate of West Scranton High School and former proprietor of Dave’s Corner Store. Anyone who attended West Scranton High School was sure to know her.   Her summers were spent at Lake Winola from 1938 until the time of her passing. Her fondest memories there included spending time with family and friends, gathering for picnics, tending to her garden, feeding birds, and enjoying the annual Water Carnival festivities.

She is also survived by her six children: Sharon Evans, Lake Winola, Thomas Evans Jr, Debbie Sylvester (Donny) all of Scranton, Cindy Pepsin (Joe) Throop, Charlene (Lene) Laluga (Joe) Scranton and Nancy Curley (Kirk) of Chestertown, MD. She was also a grandmother to nine: Tommy Evans, Joey Evans, Kristy Evans-Berardelli, Erin Moore (Bob), Melissa Michel (Bill), Karly Homer (Chris), Justin Laluga, Daina Griffiths (Jesse) and Kristena Laluga and great-grandmother to eleven: Tyler, Mia, Joseph, Joey, Anthony, Bobby, Nora, Emmie, Constance, Harper, Chase and one more on the way. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Allied Home Hospice with special thanks to Dan and Angela for the care and compassion provided to Ruth this past month.

As she would say to all her loved ones as they left her “Be careful”.

Arrangements by Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Scranton. As per her wishes, no service will be held and “no hullabaloo”!  A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
