We are heartbroken to let you know that Roger Phillips passed away April 24 due to complications of diabetes.
Roger was cherished by the many people who loved him. His life revolved around his family. He loved his home, front porch and yard. Roger married the love of his life, Cheryl Kime Phillips, after being best friends since the age of 13. They had 56 happy years of marriage and absolutely cherished each other.
He was blessed to have two adoring daughters, Traci Snyder and Mindy Haller, who he loved with all of his heart. Then life got even better when his first grandson, Liam Healey, was born and he became Pop Pop. He loved telling everyone how tall and considerate he was. He was Pop’s buddy. His first granddaughter is Layla Haller, who Pop said could not be more beautiful. Two years later came Clover Haller, who Pop said couldn’t be any more sweet or kind. His youngest grandson is Julian Haller, who Pop loved and would get a big kick out of how he would try to steal his favorite chair. Pop loved all the grandkids’ tight hugs.
Roger was born July 13, 1946, graduated from West Scranton High School and served in the United States Air Force. He worked at The Scranton Tribune for 25 years and retired from the University of Scranton Security Office. He enjoyed sitting on his front porch, gardening and going to the Jersey shore. He was a member of Jackson Street Baptist Church for 55 years and a member of Acacia Lodge #579, F&AM. Roger was known for his quick wit and great sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; children, Traci and Mindy; sons-in-law, Tom Snyder, Drew Haller and John Healey; grandchildren; a nephew, Corey (and Jonelle) Kime; and a great-niece, Kallie Kime, who Uncle Rog loved to be scared by; brothers, Jerry (and Sandee), Rob (and Pat); and sister, Carole Powell; sister and brother-in-law and best friends, Bonnie Kime-Sammon and Hank; brother-in-law, Barry (and Marilyn) Kime; nephews and nieces; and three cousins; and neighbor and friend, Bill Valentine.
