Obituaries

David Shoemaker, age 70, of Scranton, passed away Saturday evening at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Scranton, following an illness. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 37 years, Judy (Callis) Shoemaker.

Born on July 8, 1953, and raised in Dunmore, David was the son of the late Francis L. and Reba (Tamm) Shoemaker. A graduate of Dunmore High School, he then attended the University of Scranton. For well over 20 years prior to his retirement, he worked for WEA/Cinram in Olyphant.

Dave will long be remembered in so many ways. An avid sports fan, he was a die-hard fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and loved his Ohio State Buckeyes. Kind, friendly and engaging, Dave was truly a wonderful human being. His family meant everything to him, and he was proud to serve as “Pop Pop” to his two adored grandchildren.

Along with Judy, she is also survived by his children, Paul David Shoemaker and wife Jessica of Tampa, FL., and Breanna Avvisato and husband Nicholas of Spring Brook Twp.; his two grandchildren, Madelyn Shoemaker and Nicholas “Nico” David Avvisato; and his sister, Marcia Shoemaker of Dunmore.

Private arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., West Scranton and Old Forge.
