Obituaries

Lori (Loomis) Cooney, a lifelong West Scranton resident, passed away Wednesday at Allied Hospice after a recent illness. She was 57 years young.
On January 9, 2015, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 29 years, Paul J. Cooney.
Born on May 24, 1966, and daughter of the late John H. and Marion (Reid) Loomis, Lori was a graduate of West Scranton High School. She then took on the role of mother, raising her adoring daughter, Ann, before working Goodwill Industries later in her life.
Lori’s happy place was the outdoors as she loved camping and fishing. Although gone too soon, she is undoubtedly at peace.
She is survived by her loving family, including her daughter, Ann Shafer and husband Robert of Scranton; grandchildren, Isaiah and Emily Shafer; siblings, John Loomis of Dickson City and Linda Kerecman and husband Robert of Scranton; and nieces and nephews.
A sister in law, Lindsay Loomis, also preceded her in death.
A blessing service by Rev. Dennis D’Augostine is scheduled for Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton. Burial will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Monday between 4-7:00 PM.
