Dorothy Smith, age 84, a West Scranton native and a longtime resident of Drexel Hill, passed away Tuesday at Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood, after a recent illness.
Born on May 30, 1939, in West Scranton, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Edward and Dorothy (Forgeng) Smith. A graduate of the former St. Patrick’s High School, Class of 1957, she also earned class valedictorian honors. For over three decades, she served as a telephone operator for the Bell Telephone Co. prior to her retirement.
Dorothy was a loving and caring sister, always concerned for others, especially her nieces and nephew and great nieces and great nephews.
She led a life devoted to God, faithful in every way. She remained a member of both St. Patrick’s Parish in West Scranton and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church of Drexel Hill.
She is survived by her loving sister, Joanne Keiser and husband Paul of Scranton; two nieces and a nephew; five grand nephews and two great nieces; and a great great nephew.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John J. and Edward P. Smith, both in 2005.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson Street in West Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Richard Fox, Pastor. Burial will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery.
Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to church.
