Theodore (Teddy) Scazafabo, age 76 and a lifelong resident of Old Forge, died Friday at home following an illness. He is survived by his wife, Lucille (Pugliano) Scazafabo. Highschool sweethearts who wed on July 27, 1968, the couple were married for 55 years.
Born on May 2, 1947 and raised in Old Forge, Teddy was the son of the late Thomas and Romaine (Tyler) Scazafabo. An all-conference football standout for Old Forge High School, he was a 1966 graduate. He then entered the U.S. Navy where he proudly served his country until his honorable discharge from active duty. He then remained in the service as a U.S. Naval Reserves.
An award winning salesman throughout his career, he had worked for several of the area’s modular home production companies before retiring from Simplex Homes of Scranton.
Teddy was a passionate sailor. Although he did much of his sailing on Lake Wallenpaupack where he was a member of both the ‘Paupack sailing club and United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, he also earned his captain’s license allowing him to lead chartered sails everywhere from the British Virgin Islands to the Chesapeake Bay.
Above all else came his grandchildren, and he was truly proud to be Lucy’s “Papa.”
A Roman Catholic, he was a lifelong member of Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge.
Along with Lucille, he is survived by his three children, Alysia Scazafabo, Jennifer Scazafabo and Theodore (Ted) Scazafabo and wife Cheryl, all of Old Forge; grandchildren, Lucy and Theo; and nieces and nephews.
The last of the four Scazafabo siblings, he was preceded in death by siblings, Linda Scazafabo, Thomas Scazafabo and recently Allen “Skitch” Scazafabo on February 14th.
Funeral services will begin on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumpton Church, Prince of Peace Parish, in Old Forge to be celebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, pastor. Burial with military honors by the AMVETS Honor Guard will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Old Forge. Family and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
